Description of the contract

The Centre for Public Health Excellence (CPHE) at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has been asked by the Department of Health (DH) to develop public health guidance aimed at managing overweight and obesity in adults through lifestyle weight management services. This piece of guidance will be developed by a Programme Development Group (PDG) in 2013. The guidance is expected to be published in May 2014 and will contain recommendations based on the evidence considered by the PDG. Two evidence reviews are being commissioned for this guidance. This document is the invitation to tender for review 2: an evidence review to address focused questions as outlined in the final scope, covering: best practice principles for multi-component lifestyle programmes; behavioural components; adherence; sustained weight loss; training needs of professional and best practice principles for primary care and commissioners. Review 1 is being commissioned separately and comprises of a brief update of the 2011 HTA review by Loveman et al on the clinical effectiveness of long term weight management schemes for adults: a systematic review. Tenders from individual organisations or consortia of organisations are welcomed. The contractor(s) will be multidisciplinary, capable of providing high quality analyses and evidence to decision makers within very tight timescales. Specialist expertise in research on lifestyle weight management, diet, physical activity or behavioural interventions is essential. Tenders from individual organisations or consortia of organisations are welcomed. The contract for this work will start from 4th October 2012. The contractor(s) will work closely with CPHE and in line with NICE methods and processes for development of evidence-based guidance. Proposals for the evidence review should be submitted electronically no later than 12:00 noon GMT on 17th August 2012.
