This contract will cover the requirements of the Occupational Health Unit, based at the Civic Centre, Gateshead, which is part of Human Resources and Workforce Development. The Council is currently looking to appoint a 1 day per week lead Occupational Health Physician and 1 half day per 2 weeks second Occupational Health Physician to work on ill health retirement cases and other appointments, conduct statutory and other medical examinations and give advice and guidance on the implications of individual cases.

The main responsibilities include:
— sickness absence/sickness absence review,
— medical assessments,
— pre-employment assessment,
— fitness to work,
— alternative employment cases,
— ill health retirements,
— participate in case conferences,
— advising nursing staff,
— participate in discussions with the Council and provide advice in relation to change in Council policy and procedures (lead OHP only).
— participate in the delivery of messages to the Council’s senior management team.
Messages will include:
— corporate priorities,
— changes in legislation, service delivery, promotion of service, current health agendas and best practice (Lead OHP only).
Any other activities deemed reasonable by the parties.
Attend meetings as necessary including clinical meetings, case conferences and senior management meetings.
