Listed on the London Stock Exchange, formed in 1998, with circa 20 000 employees, SSE stock continues to innovate and grow its market share and are justifiably proud of their reputation as an outstanding employer, with all employees guaranteed to receive the living wage as well as a number of other employee benefits.
Our current Occupational Health programme includes the Occupational Health Surveillance of approximately 5 000 operational employees for fitness for work and health surveillance screening, pre-placement health screening for new operational employees, voluntary lifestyle health checks, and a case management service with occupational health referrals. The current average number of referrals per month is 90, 80 % of the referrals are dealt with by telephone appointments, 20 % of the referrals are seen off site near our locations which are spread across Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.
The case management service should minimise sickness absence within the Employer’s organisation. Therefore, it should involve close communication and consultation with the SSE HR Team with regards to answering specific questions and reporting. There may be a requirement to provide physio treatment as part of our case management to reduce sickness absence for musculo-skeletal symptoms.
All reports should contain specific recommendations to ensure the most effective management of sickness absence and well being of the individual. There will be regular reviews of the quality of reports both in SSE and with the provider with regular joint reviews to ensure reports are adding value and offering valuable insight.
It may be necessary for the OHA/OHP to obtain a GP or specialist report in order to manage a medical case. On occasion GP or specialist reports may be requested without the need to see or talk to the SSE employee.
In all cases, SSE will authorise all requests for GP or specialist reports. Where this is required, the OHA/OHP will still need to provide specific recommendations based on the individual.
All new employees, following pre placement health screening where their roles are exposed to the following risks, will be added to the Occupational Health Surveillance Programme:
— Audio; Hand Arm Vibration; Skin; Respiratory; Night Workers; Working at Height/Confined Space; Chester Step Test for Onshore Wind and Emergency Response Team members; FLT and Plant Vehicle Operators; Ionising Radiation; High Temperature Working; Asbestos exposure; Hazardous Substances for example: Carcinogens — Benzene — Lead — Mercury — Silica — Man made mineral fibres.
The consultant company will provide a follow up programme for all SSE employees which is compliant with the HSE requirements.
All parties wishing to take part shall confirm their interest by email to ps.procurement@sse.com and refer to the SSE web portalwww.sse.com/beingresponsible/responsiblebuyer/ Procurement Regulations/493 PQQ where a Pre Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) can be downloaded. The PQQ has instructions for completion and submission according to a specific deadline.Failure to respond by this deadline may result in the applicant not being invited to participate further.
