Ordnance Survey has been acquiring aerial imagery to assist in the creation and maintenance of its national database of Great Britain for over 50 years. Ordnance Survey currently leases 2 digital cameras and employs its own staff as air camera operators whilst outsourcing the provision of aircraft under lease.

— hold an Air Operators Certificate (AOC), Certificates of Registration and Certificates of Airworthiness,

— operate within the EASA Air Operations Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 Part-SPO (Specialised Operations),

— hold appropriate Certificates of Insurance (third party liability set out in Article 6 and and of EC regulation No 785/2004,

— ensure that equipment fitted is compliant with CAA regulations, and

— be licensed to fly aircraft for aerial survey anywhere in the UK.
