In this open tender DANTE is inviting offers for leasing point to point capacity between one of a number of designated points in Europe on the GEANT network and the CNGI-6iX exchange point in Beijing, China via a direct terrestrial cable. The bandwidth is required to be operational for 2 years from 1st January 2013. There is a maximum budget of 2.0M Euro to cover the 2 year period. At least 10Gbps capacity will be preferred, though the lots set out a range of alternative capacity scenarios.
The ORIENTplus project is funded by the research and education networks of Europe and China with additional funding support from the European Commission’s FP7 programme. It currently provides 2.5 Gbps connectivity between Europe and China, and high demands from co-operative research activities mean this capacity needs to be increased. Full details of the requirement, including the addresses of the designated termination points, and how to respond to the tender are provided in the tender documentation which is available from DANTE on request.
Organisations wishing to receive the tender documentation should contact DANTE by sending an email to orientplus-coordinator@dante.net as soon as possible. The closing date for all tender submissions is 13 August 2012. The contract is expected to be awarded in mid September and provisioning to commence by October to achieve the operational starting date.
