II.2.1)Total quantity or scope:

A proven track record of experience with a university IP commercialisation unit. Preferably, such experience will have been gained with a Russell Group university either currently or within the last 2 years.
A proven track record of experience with corporate clients, working in partnerships with in-house attorneys or by directly managing corporate clients’ patent estates.
Ability to draft high quality patent specifications and trademark applications, often related to very early stage technologies, across the wide spectrum of research areas embraced by the University, that provide robust platforms for commercialisation in diverse markets.
The ability to prosecute and manage the University’s patent and trademark portfolio on an international basis, either directly, or through close partnerships with highly esteemed international firms.
Ability to attend meetings on-site in Manchester at short notice. It is UMIP commercialisation team’s preference to hold in-person meetings on-site, in Manchester, with inventors and patent agents whenever possible. However, whilst a degree of location and communication mode flexibility can sometimes be accommodated by UMIP, each year a number of important meetings arise where attendance at our premises is mandatory and at short notice. The number of such urgent meetings required between UMIP, inventors and patent agents within two hours notice is approximately eight per annum. The number of meetings required between UMIP, inventors and patent agents within 24 to 48 hours is approximately twenty per annum. Additional meetings are arranged at mutually convenient times and can accommodate greater flexibility.
Ability to develop and foster excellent relations with all relevant UMIP personnel to such an extent that the firm will, to all intents and purposes, act as an extension to our in-house team. Firms will be expected to commit to spending time at our location on a flexible basis as mutually agreed, and to provide added value services such as training events, alerts and updates, and seminars from time to time.
