Penrith Pedestrian Movement Strategy
Eden District Council wishes to engage a contractor to research, design, and manufacture items of street furniture recommended in the Penrith Pedestrian Movement Strategy (October 2011). Penrith Pedestrian Movement Strategy was developed to ensure there are strong links between the existing town centre, Morrisons and Booths stores to the north, the New Squares (Sainsbury’s) scheme to the south and the main public transport hubs.

Sainsbury’s and Booths are now open and the second phase of New Squares development which will include a number of new retail units will be complete in Autumn 2012.  To ensure that footfall in the town centre increases as a result of opening of the remainder of New Squares, there is a commitment to install the wayfinders before the opening of New Squares development, currently programmed for Autumn 2012.

The Vitality of Penrith group (VOP), which is comprised of public and private sector local stakeholders, is the lead group overseeing a programme of improvements in the town centre.  The VOP have established a logo and strap line to help promote the brand of ‘Penrith’. The logo and strap line need to be integrated into the new signage to be implemented as part of this Brief.
