The contract is for the ground investigation of the superficial deposits and bedrock in the vicinity of the Haudagain Roundabout in Aberdeen. The scope of the works comprises ground investigation works which shall include but not be limited to non-intrusive investigation of buried utilities (e.g. Ground Penetrating Radar), hand excavation of pits and trenches to positively identify buried services, exploratory holes in soil and rock, in situ testing, high quality sampling, installation of instrumentation, laboratory testing, post site monitoring and factual reporting in both digital and paper formats. Candidates should note that some works are to be undertaken on or adjacent to existing roads. These works are required to be undertaken under traffic management restriction. The contract shall include the arrangement and provision of the necessary traffic management.
The ground investigation itself is to provide geotechnical information to inform the development of the Specimen Design and subsequently to aid participants during the main Construction Tendering process for the A90/ A96 Haudagain Improvement Contract. The Ground Investigation Contract includes a Novation Clause.
The successful candidates shall be required to undertake laboratory testing including soil and rock tests for classification, re-use properties, strength, consolidation, effective and total stress, chemical, contamination and waste. The contract includes for the preparation of a factual report and an accompanying digital data report for the ground investigation.
The contracts for the services will include the following activities:- (a) construction of all necessary works listed above (b) appropriate laboratory testing (c) full reports enabling a detailed knowledge of the ground conditions along the preferred route.
The intention is that the services are implemented by Infrastructure Conditions of Contract, Ground Investigation Version August 2011, including amendments dated October 2011. Specifications will include the standard documents used by the Scottish Ministers (Transport Scotland) for Ground Investigation contracts in Scotland.

Information and formalities necessary for evaluating if the requirements are met: Economic operators will be evaluated in accordance with the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2012, as amended, on the basis of information provided in response to a pre-qualification questionnaire (“PQQ”), copies of which are available on request from the Scottish Ministers.
