The registration information team conducts verification checks on doctors’ qualifications where there is a requirement to do so. 2 types of checks are conducted:
— monthly post-grant checks of the primary medical qualifications of a random sample of European applicants granted registration in the last month,
— ad hoc checks of the medical qualifications of any GMC registrant, where a concern is raised about such qualifications.
The third party will be contracted to provide these verification services on the GMC’s behalf. A successful verification means confirmation from someone in a position of authority at the issuing institution that a doctor’s qualification is genuine, being gained by that individual at the awarding body in question, on the date claimed.
