Description of the contract

Due to the approaching expiry of an existing contract the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is inviting quotes from suitably experienced organisations with a proven track record in delivering high quality nursery meals services. The Council recognises that good eating habits are fostered early on in life. The Council believes that it is important that young children are supported to develop the taste preferences and skills needed to make appropriate food choices and develop positive attitudes to diet and taste. The Council, therefore, feels that it is important that young children (under the age of five years) are presented with opportunities to eat and become accustomed to a variety of foods which support healthy eating. Contractors will be expected to provide lunchtime meals (ensuring that menus meet the School Food Trust Nutritional Standards for Early Years or similar) for two nurseries run by the Council: • Abbey Children’s Centre Day Nursery, North Street, Barking, IG11 8JA; • John Perry Children’s Centre Day Nursery, Auriel Avenue, Dagenham, RM10 8BS. Contractors may be required to provide up to a maximum of one hundred (104) meals a day, fifty two (52) at Abbey Nursery and fifty two (52) at John Perry The new contract is expected to run for a period of one year commencing in June 2012. The award of the contract will be based on the most economically advantageous tender/quote.
