Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is leading “Grow Wild”, a new campaign to bring people together all across the UK to make a difference to where they live by sowing UK native wild flowers. Grow Wild is funded by a £10.5 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
Between spring 2014 and 2017, Grow Wild will:
– Distribute one million kits across the UK – each kit will contain a UK native seed mix (which is the subject of the intended tender)
– Create four flagship sites – one each in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
– Create 160 smaller community engagement sites throughout the UK.
Grow Wild will be a high-profile campaign, which will reach 30 million people over its lifetime. It will involve a network of partners with a combined membership of many millions, including RSPB, the wildlife trusts, Girlguiding UK, UK Youth, Groundwork and Greenspace Scotland among many others. The campaign will also foster a vibrant digital community and will be supported by national and local marketing and media coverage.

The provider shall ensure that the country-specific seed mixes comprise widely distributed, common, native, annual and perennial wild flowers that originate in the appropriate nation (England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and or the Republic of Ireland).
The seed mixes provided shall use a species composition designed to give a colourful display in the same year as sowing as well as containing perennial species that will establish and flower in subsequent years. Specific requirements will be detailed in the Invitation To Tender (ITT) documentation.
It is not intended to restrict consortia from tendering for the supply of the above requirements.

The Contracting Authority intends to use an eTendering system in this procurement exercise. A supplier day will be held on the 12th July 2013 from 10:00 until 14:00 at Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew. The purpose of the supplier day is to provide a forum for potential suppliers of all sizes to gain a broad understanding of the requirements for the provision of Grow Wild seed mixes. It will also provide an opportunity to share and gain feedback which may be used to shape and refine the proposition before any formal procurement commences.
All those organisations wishing to attend the Supplier Day should register their interest via the email address in Section I above on or before 10th July 2013.
