The Provision of an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate and Relevant Person Representative Service
Kirklees Council and Wakefield Council wish to jointly commission an ‘Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) and Relevant Persons Representative (RPR) Service’ to be available for people residing within the Kirklees and Wakefield local authority areas, where they meet the criteria set down in the ‘Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005’. The Service will provide IMCA’s for those eligible for the Service, an Information Service on the role and requirements of IMCA instruction for people contacting the Service, awareness and training sessions, support the local implemantation of MCA and additional advocacy services where required. In addition the Service will provide RPR services for people deprived of their liberty subject to standard authorisations under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensuring that appropriate representation and support which is independent of the Commissioning Partners, relevant PCT’s and providers of the services they are receiving is available, and that decisions made are in the best interest of the person lacking capacity.
