This opportunity is for the provision of public health microbiology services for North England and Yorkshire and the Humber.
The tender is run under the light touch regime and consist of 2 lots:
— Lot 1: Public Health Microbiology Services for North England (ITT 3064);
— Lot 2: Public Health Microbiology Services for Yorkshire and The Humber (ITT 3065).

II.2.4)Description of the procurement:
Public Health England (PHE) also referred to as the ‘Authority’ is seeking to procure microbiology service provider to support Public Health England (PHE), Department of Health and other stakeholders both locally and nationally.
The service in the North East is currently provided by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (the “NuTHFT”).
The Public Health (PH) Microbiology Service subject of this tender should comprise of two components:
— The provision of a testing service for the investigation of outbreaks of infections or sporadic infections caused by pathogens specific concern. This testing service must be provided at short notice and should include access to new tests rolled out during an emergency or an epidemic.
— The Provider must render professional advice and support in relation to medical and scientific issues pertaining to PH Microbiology and PHE.

PHE expect to award a contract for a period of 3 years with 2 possible extensions of 12 months each (3 + 1 + 1).

The service in Yorkshire and The Humber is currently provided by Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (LTHT).
The Public Health Microbiology Service subject of this tender should comprise of three components:
— The provision of a testing service for the investigation of outbreaks of infections or sporadic infections caused by pathogens specific concern. This testing service should be provided at short notice and should provide access to new tests rolled out during an emergency or an epidemic.
— The Provider must render professional advice and support in relation to medical and scientific issues pertaining to Public Health Microbiology and PHE.
— Supporting and working with Clostridium difficile Ribotyping Network (CDRN) team.
