Description of the contract

Objectives and Methods To undertake the Young People’s Health and Lifestyle Survey using self-completion questionnaires (paper or web-based). To propose a sample frame and survey methodology that will provide a sample representative of school years 7 to 11 inclusive. Maintain confidentiality and anonymity. To achieve an overall sample size of at least 3,000, representative of the Hull area by age, gender and IMD 2010 child poverty index distribution, while also ensuring that the geographical spread of the respondents is broadly representative of areas within Hull. To undertake 5-10 reflector/focus groups in schools with young people aged 11-16 years and among young people aged 16-18 years who are broadly representative of young people of this age (i.e. involve a mixture of young people who enter further education at 16 and those who leave education at 16). Further specific details of these groups will be determined by the Steering Group. To participate in Steering Group meetings in order to speedily produce, pilot and finalise the questionnaire, which will be largely based on the questionnaire used in our previous Health and Lifestyle Surveys. We anticipate that the final questionnaire will take no more than half an hour to complete. To enter the data produced in an appropriate database as agreed with the Steering Group. To quality check the data entry, and sample validity. To deliver the completed questionnaires and finalised database to the Public Health Science Team at NHS Hull head office. To ensure that personnel have appropriate Criminal Records Bureau clearance and are covered by appropriate insurance, etc. To produce a summary report detailing the process which has been followed in fulfilling the survey brief, including detailed information on the survey response rates and possible causes of bias. The survey data is to remain the property of NHS Hull.
