The NHS Health Check programme is a national initiative which systematically offers preventative checks to all those aged 40 — 74 years to assess their risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and vascular dementia. These diseases share a common set of risk factors: obesity, harmful alcohol intake, lack of physical activity, hypertension, smoking, disordered blood fat and/ or sugar levels. Early identification and management of these risk factors can potentially delay or prevent the onset of vascular disease. Subsequently, reducing the potential burden on future health and social care.
