Description of the contract
Background The purpose of the job is to join an established test team as a Senior Test Analyst which reports to the Test Manager. The role will be required to lead and deliver software testing on projects/changes, ensuring compliance to the client’s testing approach and customer requirements. This role is initially for 6 months. Main Duties/ Responsibilities The role will be expected to interpret customer requirements and design documentation in order to create test strategies and plans where appropriate, functional test scripts that will ensure that the software matches expectations and associated usability, defect reports and end of test summary reports. This may involve requesting clarification from the business for unclear requirements. They will be expected to provide estimates of time and resourcing needs for testing activities to the IMT Test Manager and subsequently project managers and technical leads to aid in project planning. The team are responsible for testing new services for customers, often at the end of a lengthy development cycle. If significant defects are found this may delay the project and release. Consequently a thorough testing approach needs to be in place to assure the customer that testing is assisting in improving the quality of the deliverable. Testing occurs in multiple areas in the business. The role needs to gain the respect and trust of the developers and customers that may have previously undertaken testing and work with them to acquire the required domain knowledge. They will need to add value to the testing process by applying appropriate test techniques and experience. Outputs/ Deliverables to be achieved The post holder will: • Review requirements and specifications and determine whether there is adequate detail for effective testing. • Produce all testing documentation for the testing phases in scope; to include, strategies, plans, schedules, tests, defects, closure documents and all associated reports. The post holder will work with the business and test manager to: • Identify and manage any risks introduced by new/changed functionality. • Manage and control any unexpected or inappropriate changes or scope creep and determine impact on testing required and any timelines. • Determine and execute efficient testing phases. • Determine an acceptable level of coverage (depth and breadth) for testing and produce a test script that meets that coverage. Test scripts will be reviewed and approved before use. • Co-ordinate execution of test scripts to determine whether they have passed or failed. • Raise defects and assign a priority for that defect. Manage the assignment and fixes of issues and subsequent retests required. • Will be expected to follow documented processes and procedures. There is some discretion to vary these in order to solve problems or deal with unique requirements. • Provide a judgement on whether a change or a package of releases is sufficiently tested to be implemented in the live environment to ensure no detrimental impact. • Performing Impact Assessments and escalate issues where necessary. Skills/ Experience Required Essential • Experience in creating and implementing a testing strategy on projects/software developments. • Experience in creating and implementing a testing plan on simple changes/software developments. • Demonstrable experience of understanding requirements and then developing test scripts in a range of software environments. • Experience of producing and running tests in HP Quality Center 9.2. • Attention to detail and pride in own deliverables. • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. • Report and documentation skills to set out information in a concise and logical manner. • Strong communications skills and the ability to present to all staff at the appropriate level. • Displaying leadership and personal responsibility. Desirable • Experiencing of implementing and managing an automated functional regression test using HPQC & QTP in a large organisation. • Experience of testing SAP systems. Formal Qualifications Required Essential • Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing (ISEB or ISTQB) Desirable: • Practitioner Certificate in Software Testing (ISEB or ISTQB) • PRINCE2 Foundation • ITIL Foundation – SC clearance is desirable however it is essential that you go through this clearance once on site if you do not have current SC clearance
