Description of the contract

The Centre for Public Health (CPH) at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is undertaking a partial update of the existing guideline on obesity (NICE clinical guideline CG43 [2006]). This update focuses only on the public health recommendations on the maintenance of a healthy weight (section 1.1.1 of the original guideline). This piece of guidance will be developed by a Public Health Advisory Committee (PHAC) in 2014 in line with the scope for this work (the draft scope is available here). The guidance is expected to be published in March 2015 and will contain recommendations based on the evidence considered by the PHAC. Tenders are welcomed that cover both of the following: Review 1: An evidence review of modifiable diet and physical activity components, and associated behaviours, which may support children and adults to maintain a healthy weight or prevent excess weight gain. • Review 2: An evidence review of approaches to communicate messages about maintaining a healthy weight in children and adults. Tenders from individuals, organisations or consortia of organisations are welcomed. The contractor(s) will work with the CPH team to produce the evidence review and model in line with CPH process and methods. The contractor(s) will be multidisciplinary, capable of providing high quality analyses to decision makers within very tight timescales. Specialist expertise in systematic reviewing and expertise in obesity prevention or management is required. Expressions of interests from a high calibre team – individual organisations or consortia of organisations – are welcomed.
