Description of the contract
The UK Space Agency aims to facilitate fourfold growth of the UK space sector 2030. The UK space industry relies completely on the electromagnetic spectrum for communications, control, signalling and remote sensing. As space services expand it is likely that more spectrum capacity will be needed. Some of the capacity increase will come through making better use of existing allocations and some will need to come through new allocations. There is an increasing pressure on the current space sector spectrum allocations from other services and there are new opportunities arising from public sector spectrum release plans. The UK Space Agency wishes to commission a study to enable the agency to understand how effectively the current space sector allocations are being used, what new allocations are needed now, what will be needed in the future to enable growth in the sector. The principle output of the study will be a report. This report will provide evidence demonstrating the space sector requirements now and into the future. It will inform and influence UK spectrum policy and our UK position in international spectrum forums. For the UK Space Agency, the information resulting from this study will be essential in making the case within the UK Government and internationally for the retention of current space sector spectrum allocations and for justifying the awarding of new allocations to the space sector.
