2 Contract Details

2.1

Title

Desk based evaluation of windfarms and habitat management in Scotland

2.2

Description of the goods or services required

The contractor will:

1 Provide an overview of the industry in Scotland at present outlining the nature and extent of

the industry and quantifying the habitats managed by the industry. Specifically to:

i) Quantify how many wind farms there are in Scotland over a size of 5MW and where they are

located.

ii) Quantify the spatial extent and regional distribution of different habitats under the

management control of windfarm companies.

Additionally, The contractor will clarify the extent and nature of habitat management presently undertaken

by the windfarm industry. Specifically to:

i) Review the range of management measures being implemented, and develop a system

for categorising management measures (e.g. grazing, native woodland planting, controlling

non-natives, artificial nest boxes).

ii) Produce a temporal distribution for the number of sites in each category of

management measures (from i) above) being implemented. An example of the type of output

envisaged is shown in Figure 2 below, although this could be extended to include outputs by

area of habitat under management and summarised by regions depending on the amount of

data available.
