The British Library recently completed a pilot project that developed a Samvera Hyku Research Repository for its own research outputs and those of five other cultural sector Independent Research Organisations (IROs). The service, including six individual institutional repositories and a shared layer that aggregates the combined content, went live in November 2019. The British Library is now looking at how this beta service can be developed to provide hosted repository solutions for other Cultural Sector IROs. As part of this work a supplier is needed to host, support and develop the platform up until March 2023.

The British Library recently completed a pilot project that developed a Samvera Hyku Research Repository for its own research outputs and those of five other cultural sector Independent Research Organisations (IROs). The service, including six individual institutional repositories and a shared layer that aggregates the combined content, went live in November 2019. The British Library is now looking at how this beta service can be developed to provide hosted repository solutions for other cultural sector IROs. As part of this work a supplier is needed to host, support and develop the platform up until March 2023.
The supplier must provide, host and support a system that:
— holds and presents multiple Samvera-based institutional repositories on a single instance,
— provides a landing page and shared search interface to offer a single access point for a cluster of the individual repositories,
— allows separate repositories also to be established but not included in the shared cluster,
— includes all the integrations and features available in the British Library’s current hosted repositories in both admin backend and public front end,
— provides backups, data storage, security, and disaster recovery.
The scope of this tender, and subsequent contract, also includes support for the migration and implementation of moving the platform to a new supplier.
