II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s):
This means we will be purchasing a solution and support package in a contract of up to 5 years.
The project will be delivered over 2 phases:
Phase 1
a)
Server and storage replacement at Site 1.
b)
Server replacement and new storage installed at Site 2 with enough capacity to replicate from storage at Site 1 (old storage will still be receiving replication from Site 3).
Phase 2
a)
Server and storage replacement at Site 3 – potentially adding new blade servers into an existing chassis
b)
Increase storage capacity at Site 2 (if not already in Phase 1)
Installation & Setup: a joint approach followed by Anglian Water & Associates IT staff will be trained and taken through the process.
Common Interface: Currently infrastructure has a number of interfaces operating requiring separate agreements and skills for support. Operational best practice would be to achieve a common interface through this project creating cost efficiencies long term & greater system compatibility.
Whilst replacing the existing equipment any proposed solution the minimum requirements must satisfy the following objectives:
—
Increase performance
—
Increase capacity for virtualisation
—
More cost effective future expansion
—
Move towards a common hardware estate
—
Increase the supportability of infrastructure
—
Increase resilience
Current Environment
The equipment to be replaced is spread across three locations:
datacenter (Site 1) – 2x racks
disaster recovery site (Site 2) – 1x rack
main office (Site 3) – multiple rack availability
There is currently a 10 Mbps point to point link between Site 1 and Site 3 which will be upgraded later in the year. Site 3 and Site 2 are connected by a 10Gbps fibre link.
There is a mix of HP and Dell devices to be replaced. There is currently Dell EqualLogic SAN to SAN replication between the Site 1 and Site 2 and between Site 3 and Site 2.
Blade servers are VMWare hosts and in each chassis we currently have a lower powered server acting as a vCenter server.
Please note that at Site 2 there is only a single rack. As the phases are proposed below there is 19U of rackspace available for any solution.
Storage Targets
Site 1 – usable storage of 12TB
Site 2 – to accommodate replication from both sites, usable storage would need to be 57TB
Site 3 – usable storage of 45TB
A real world performance of 3000 IOPS would be an acceptable increase in performance over our current environment in which we are achieving approximately 1000 IOPs.
II.1.6)Common procurement vocabulary (CPV)
