The Council has a statutory duty under the Carers (Recognition and Services) Act 1995 and the Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004 to provide a carer’s assessment and to inform carers of their right to an assessment.
Young Carers are children or young people aged 5 to 18 years old who look after someone in their family with an illness, a disability, a mental health need or a substance misuse problem.
Young Carers are considered to be a vulnerable group.  The care they provide is emotional, practical or a combination of both and the level of responsibility is often the level expected of an adult.
