Social Work Post Qualifying Training
Previously registered social workers formal academic post qualifying awards were provided for under a framework developed and managed by the General Social Care Council (GSCC).
With the closure of the GCSS and the transfer of regulatory functions to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) this framework no longer exists.
However, there remains a need for social workers to have access to formal academic opportunities for continuous professional development.
The HCPC require all qualified and registered social workers to undertake and record regular continuing professional development activities (CPD) in order to ‘retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally (HCPC).
In order to meet this need Gloucestershire County Council is working to provide staff with the opportunity to access academic post qualifying education.
The Standards for Employers of Social Workers require Gloucestershire County Council to:
a.     meet the career needs of its social workers,
b.    provide time, resources and support for CPD to enable them to meet re-registration requirements,
c.    ensure that practice educators can contribute to the development of the future workforce, and
d.    support staff to access post qualifying education.
In this context the council is now seeking to secure new provision.
We would like to invite providers experienced in delivering social work education at post-qualifying level to work with us to develop a joint approach to the way we deliver these services in the future; making sure we build on the best of what we do already, consider local issues and how best to meet the needs of all stakeholders concerned.
If you are interested in contributing to either the delivery or development of these services and would like to take part in future soft market testing please express an interest by clicking on the button below
