Description of the contract

The requirement As part of its continuing programme to raise standards in the provision of vocational education for 14-19 year olds, the Department for Education (DfE) is inviting applications from technical writers to produce tailored communications documentation, designed to ensure that students, parents, schools, colleges, awarding organisations, and other stakeholders have a clear understanding of vocational education reforms. Applicants should have relevant experience of producing and securing the dissemination of texts that are understood by professionals working within education and/or young peoples services. The role The technical writer will: • Develop a detailed understanding of a complex set of vocational education reforms, including 14-19 vocational qualifications, 16-19 study programmes, traineeships, work experience and English and Maths requirements, as well as underpinning funding and accountability policy; • Produce a range of communications and collaterals in different formats to explain to a wide range of stakeholders the totality, interdependencies and benefits of vocational education reforms; • Secure the placing of these communications in relevant professional journals and other media. The technical writer should: • Demonstrate the ability to explain complex and technical detail in terms that are widely understood to professionals working within education and/or young peoples services; • Have strong and recent experience of assimilating and conveying technical content, preferably relating to education or other government policy.
