Description of the contract

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust offers a wide range of health and social care services in South East London, specialising in community health, mental health and learning disability services. We have been the main provider of specialist mental health care in Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich for more than ten years and have developed a comprehensive portfolio of services in community and hospital settings. We provide adult learning disability services across Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich as well as forensic mental health care across south east London and in Kent Prisons. We also provide a range of physical health services to adults and children in the community in the boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich. These range from health visitors and community midwives working with the very young to district nurses and therapists meeting the physical health needs of older people. Revalidation is a new way of regulating licensed doctors, aimed at providing further assurance to patients, that their doctors are up to date and fit to practice. Licensed doctors will have to revalidate, every five years, by undertaking annual appraisals that are based on the core guidance found in the ‘Good Medical Practice’ presented by the General Medical Council (GMC). All doctors that are licensed to practice will need to revalidate. Revalidation recommendations will be based on appraisals conducted in the year(s) preceding the recommendation date which incorporate patient and colleague feedback relevant to the doctors’ current scope of practice. Oxleas uses the Strengthened Appraisal and Revalidation Database (SARD) which is a secure, internet based revalidation system, focusing on two key areas, appraisal form completion and portfolio building. It allows Doctors to gather all the required information needed for their appraisal. SARD also offers robust appraiser and responsible officer dashboards to monitor activity and compliance.
