Description of the contract

The National Railway Museum (NRM) holds the national collection of historically significant railway locomotives and rolling stock, to which it provides public access through display in museums in York, Shildon and at venues belonging to third parties throughout the UK.

Some of the steam locomotives are operational and are required to operate on the main line railways for the purposes of running special charter excursions or for display at the Museum for special events.

In addition the NRM occasionally has a requirement for hiring locomotives for moving trains to and from various locations.

Where the NRM wishes to operate a main line charter, such as the Shildon Shuttles, we may hire locomotives as motive power to haul the trains, where a national collection engine is not available. We may also wish to hire as standby in case of failure of a locomotive.
