Description of the contract

The introduction of legislation (EPA 1990) provides that local authorities have a duty to receive stray dogs. The Council’s responsibility is to collect strays and charge for kennelling a dog. If a dog is not claimed within eight days the authority has the right to find a dog a new home or have it destroyed. The Council has an obligation to keep a register of all strays collected and what happens to them.
