The solution will need to provide both a wired service to bedrooms, and a wireless service to all communal areas within the buildings. It should be noted that the current Wi-Fi service is not robust and supported by technology that is partly obsolete. The proposed solution must operate independently of existing University networks and must allow for all normal student usage demands, to include online gaming and legal and reasonable file sharing.
The speed per user service level should mirror that typically provided as an average across UK households (minimum of 8mbps per room). Some future proofing of speed provision throughout the term
of the agreement should also be included (i.e. an allowance for future anticipated growth in demand should be made).
The service must include a facility for individual users to utilise (and register if required) multiple devices, any limit on the number of devices per person must be specified.
The service should also be provided year round, and therefore be available to both academic year students residents and short term summer occupiers (who may include under 18 year olds that lead to a necessity to filter URLs accessed).
The service should include an option for residents to upgrade their package to one of a higher speed/specification.
