Description of the contract
There is a Dstl requirement to develop a thin, transparent, electrically conductive coating for simple application to defined non-planar polymer substrates. • Substrate Substrates will be an acrylic and an epoxy supplied by Dstl. The coating in each case must be compatible and be optimised for maximum adhesion. • Electrical conductivity The coating must be electrically conductive (5-10k?). • Operational temperature range The coating material shall operate and retain its essential properties over a temperature range of -55°C to +85°C. • Optical opacity The coating must have a high degree of optical transparency in the visible region of the EM spectrum (390nm – 700nm). • Application The method of application is not defined but it must allow for an even, continuous coat over the planar and non-planar feature surfaces (down to millimetre dimensions) in the application area. A spray or paint-on method would be highly desirable. The coating thickness shall be less than 75µm. The application process shall not exceed temperatures of 85oC. The application method should achieve a repeatable electrical conductivity value. There is no need for the consideration of scaling of procedures for industrial application. • Durability After application, the coating must be non-brittle and dry.
