The NoSQL database technology will provide the persistence layer for many of the plaform data services that are used by all the BBC’s websites and Apps.
These platform data services are typically HTTP REST APIs, backed by enterprise databases. These databases must offer high performance, high volume and high availability for a mix of use cases, complexity and traffic patterns.
The Data services and their databases as developed and operated by discrete product engineering teams, and the database technology must fit with the modern engineering and operational practices of these product engineering teams.
Tenderers may be invited to submit variant bids — further details are provided in the PQQ documents.
The contract will have a maximum term of five (5) years. This will be split into an initial term of three (3) years commencing on approximately 31.10.2015 and expiring on 30.10.2018 and may be extended at the BBC’s discretion by up to two (2) individual periods, each period lasting for twelve (12) months. Please refer to the PQQ documents for further details.

In the case of technology requirements, the BBC may involve its technology partner (Atos IT Solutions and Services Limited) to assist in the scoping and drafting of invitations to tender and/or the evaluation of tenders. However, the final decision as to which is the most economically advantageous (by reference to the award criteria) will be made by the BBC. The awarding authority reserves the right not to award a contract and to annul the procurement process at any stage. Tenders and all supporting documents must be priced in sterling and all payments will be made in sterling. The contract shall be subject to English law. The awarding authority does not bind itself to accept the lowest, or any tender and reserves the right to accept part of a tender unless the tenderer expressly stipulates otherwise in the tender document.
