Description of the contract

Incident Management is one of the Environment Agency’s key priorities. As a Category 1 responder the EA is required to provide a professional response with resilient systems in place. There is a need to improve response times during incidents and also reduce our costs and CO2 emissions. Many of the EA’s remote trash screen locations do not have telemetry on them and therefore need to be physically attended to ensure that they are working correctly or are not blocked. It would be un-economic to install conventional telemetry at these sites due to the geographical remoteness and costs associated with providing communications and power. There are also restrictions in the number of new telemetry sites due to the number of staff required to maintain our existing network. The desired outcome of this project is to initially install 12 new cameras in the Solent and South Downs (SSD) area, with provision for additional cameras to be installed across the South East region. The cameras will be installed at sites of high flood risk that are remote and uneconomical to install telemetry in the SSD area.
