The proposed new building will be based centrally in Wakefield directly off Kirkgate and will replace the current central Archive building which is no longer suitable to meet the needs of the West Yorkshire Joint Services and their archive deposits. This tender seeks to procure the required storage shelving systems for the building in order to enable all the required archives to be stored now and into the future.
Racking System Project:
The project requires a tiered racking system to be supplied and installed to all three levels of the building. This is likely to be a manually operated system, however, consideration will be given to an automatically operated system also. The majority of the racking will be mobile, though there will be a small section of static shelving within the building.
The successful contractor will be expected to support and feed into the design process for the building to ensure the detailed requirements of their racking system are met through the construction process. This input will be required immediately from the formal award of the shelving contract and will be within the design stages and possibly up to a point of final design.
Installation will be required in line with the main contractor’s programme. It will be a requirement to install the rails into the floor and any associated fittings within the main construction period. The construction and installation of the actual racking would be in the named period within the programme (4 weeks).
