The University of Central Lancashire is seeking expressions of interest for a contract for Business Intelligence (BI) and Development Services. Companies must have the expertise and capability to support and help in the development of BI to meet the needs of the business. The University has begun to establish a data warehouse on SQL Server using WherescapeRED technologies. The following areas of support and help are sought:
Data warehouse developments, to include dimensional model design, warehouse and OLAP cube development, reporting and associated governance procedures.
Training/ knowledge transfer in dimensional modelling, development technologies and report writing using SQL server tools.
Advocacy support and guidance in developing a culture of evidence based decision making.

1)Short description

The University has begun to establish an enterprise data warehouse with data structured according to the Kimball Dimensional modelling standard and developed using the data warehouse development and management tool, WhereScape RED, on Microsoft Database Services. Currently this data warehouse contains a subset of our student records data. The University aims to deliver tangible value in iterative phases of work and wishes to engage with a partner on a sliding scale of support from complete delivery to backup support as and when required, as the University”s capability to develop the warehouse itself grows.
Support and help is sought in:
Requirements gathering and warehouse design based on Dimensional modelling
The extraction, transformation and loading of data from a range of application databases, flat files using WherescapeRED.
Analysis cubes (OLAP) using SQL Server Analysis Services.
Information Governance guidance and support for staff involved to cover the IG disciplines;
Taxonomy and master data management
Metadata management
Data Quality management
Reports development using SQL Server Reporting Services to support Information Governance and the specific business area being targeted for IM development.
The production of warehouse user and technical documentation from WhereScape RED.

1)Short description

The University wishes to become self-sufficient in the support, maintenance and development of BI and is seeking training/knowledge transfer and follow on support in:
Kimball Dimensional data modelling and warehouse design. WherescapeRED for data warehouse development and mangement.
SQL Server Analysis services for OLAP cube development.
SQL Reporting services for Reports development.
Training provision must be flexible in delivery method (eg. face to face, on-line ) and location (eg. On-site) to provide the most appropriate mix for each area.

1)Short description

The University is seeking support in developing an enterprise wide culture for BI, which is underpinned by the competencies required to make full use of the BI and analytical software capabilities to take forward-looking decisions at both strategic and operational levels.
This will include:
Supporting engagement and adoption by Schools, Services and senior managers – “selling” the benefits and identifying real opportunities to integrate the use of BI into management and operational processes within the University to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Help in ensuring enhanced BI capabilities are, and remain, aligned to business objectives -retaining focus and relevance.
