Description of the contract

The Assets & Commercial Services Division is located within the Finance & Resources Department of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The Assets & Commercial Services Division proposes to invite tenders to be submitted for L8 plumbing remedial works at Marks Gate Community Complex, Broadway Theatre and Mayesbrook Lake Changing Rooms. These three buildings are occupied. These works have estimated values of approximately £5,000.00 for Marks Gate Community Complex, £4,000.00 for Broadway Theatre and £15,000.00 for Mayesbrook Lake Changing Rooms, and may be tendered as individual schemes or combined. The scope of works includes for upgrade works in connection with L8 (control of legionella) and typically comprises: isolation, disconnection and removal of existing domestic hot and cold water services (including mains water) internal galvanised steel pipework between items of plant such as water tanks, domestic hot water heaters and local points of draw-off, and replacing the existing pipework with a mix of plastic Durapipe and mainly copper tube. There may also be a requirement to install new/replacement thermostatic mixing valves and a new incoming underground water main from the nearest public utility supply pipe. All new pipework must be thoroughly flushed on completion of the works and chlorinated in accordance with the ACOP L8. All pipework shall be fully insulated in sectional insulation, finished in “isogenopak” and identification banded.

How to apply

Tenders are anticipated to be issued in November 2012 for return in December 2012. It is anticipated that the works shall commence on site in January 2013 for completion in March 2013. The Contractor shall only use fully trained and qualified “approved” Plumbers in the supply and installation of water supply systems irrespective of whether the plumbing systems are new or modifications to existing. Note: An “approved” Plumber/Contractor means (a) a person who has been approved by the “water undertaker” for the area where a water fitting is installed or used, or (b) has been certified as an “approved” Plumber/Contractor by WIAPS or similar body/organisation as defined in the Water Regulations Guide. Companies wishing to be considered for this project must be Constructionline pre-qualified suppliers and must submit a copy of their Constructionline registration certificate along with their expression of interest. Applicants must also provide details of their previous relevant experience (maximum 2no. A4 Sheets) in relation to carrying out similar work of this type and value. It should be noted that the Council are looking for a maximum number of six companies to tender for these works and that the final tender list will be selected based on your submission of previous relevant experience.
