JISC Historic Books has provided a single web based search interface to three collections of Historic Books for students and academics across the UK. There are now over 200 institutions subscribing to the service, with thousands of pages accessed each month by students, researchers, lecturing staff and other academics.
This procurement aims to contract a developer to bring forward the next version of JISC Historic Books incorporating a range of enhancements on the current system.

JISC Collections aims with this procurement to undergo a fundamental refresh of the JISC Historic Books user interface and functionality. Over the past three years of use JISC Collections has gained a huge amount of user feedback in addition to developing the current system. We have established an Advisory Board and User Group to guide us in this development and are looking for a developer that can both meet these requirements and suggest some innovative ideas of their own.
JISC Collections wishes to establish a long term relationship with the chosen supplier, with JISC Collections staff (or their nominated representatives) working with any chosen supplier in technical deployment and development of any chosen system.
The chosen supplier must be capable of:
— assisting in the design of user interface to the service
— undertaking build
— providing a platform for content discovery, search and delivery and testing
— working with complex metadata,
— offer second line support, bug fixes and support ongoing developments based on user requirements and/or innovations.
The service must be operational for user testing no later than Easter 2014.
