Thurrock Council is looking to appoint a contractor to design, build and install automatic sprinkler systems in bin sheds borough-wide that are currently without sprinkler systems. This is to ensure compliance with Fire Safety Regulations and provide immediate defence against fire to protect lives and minimise losses.

Thurrock Council is looking to appoint a contractor to design, build and install automatic sprinkler systems in bin sheds borough-wide that are currently without sprinkler systems. This is to ensure compliance with Fire Safety Regulations and provide immediate defence against fire to protect lives and minimise losses.
The proposed sprinkler systems shall be of the wet-pipe type and water supply will be from the town’s mains. The pipe work will be constantly charged with water. The system would consist of an enclosed fire panel, with smoke detector installed on the ceiling adjacent to the chute. On activation the panel would set off an external flashing beacon to alert tenants. Sprinkler heads will be installed on the ceiling above each bin to discharge water immediately on detection of fire. The control panel would also be linked to a communal smoke detection system to alert the Control Centre.
Contractor will be required to carry out the following:
— Supply and fit single zone fire control panel, smoke detector, and flashing beacon,
— Carry out control wiring,
— Carry out installation of the wet side of system complete with isolation valves, float switch, solenoid valve and sprinkler heads,
— Float switch to be wired in series with smoke detector,
— Test, commission installation and provide certification.
Contractor must be a registered member of one or more of the following:
FPA – Fire protection association (or European equivalent).
FSA – Fire and security association (or European equivalent).
UK Fire association (or European equivalent).
FIRAS (or European equivalent).
Any other membership which must be verifiable.
