Swale Borough Council operate 3 street markets in the towns of Faversham, Sheerness and Sittingbourne.
Sheerness market is a traditional street market located close to Sheerness Town Centre at Rose Street car-park, Tuesdays and Saturdays. Faversham street market ‘the Charter market’ surrounds Guidhall and onto Court Street and functions Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Sittingbourne Market is situated in the Forum car-park and is held each Friday. The objective of Swale Borough Council is to secure an operator for its markets in Sittingbourne, Sheerness and Faversham. The contractor will be able to contribute to the Council’s vision of creating a street trading and market experience that is diverse and vibrant. Key drivers:
— To boost street trading, particularly markets, as an integral part of the shopping experience in Swale,
— To establish new reasons for shoppers to visit the markets, extend dwell time of existing shoppers and increase shoppers’ spend in the town,
— To provide markets as a place for fresh affordable healthy foods,
— To recognise the integral role of other street trading options that add to the economic and vitality of the town centre,
— To link the markets to the boroughs history and consider opportunities to harness this in any future town centre place brand management strategy.

Swale Borough Council offers traditional but diverse ‘street’ markets in each of its 3 principal town centres of Faversham, Sheerness and Sittingbourne. The ‘Charter Marke’ in Faversham is set against the backdrop of the historic Guildhall centrally located in the Market Place and operates Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sheerness holds its market in Rose Street car park which is in close proximity to the town centre and seafront on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Sittingbourne holds its market in the Forum car park adjoining the High Street on Fridays and will form part of an exciting town centre regeneration plan. Swale Borough Council is seeking to appoint an inspiring operator or operators for any or all of its markets. The successful operator will actively contribute to our vision of a vibrant market experience within each town centre development but is also expected to promote diversity and quality of product to our residents and visitors.

Faversham is a medieval town, the market is the oldest in Kent and has been in existence of over 900 years.
With 50 stalls the Charter Market surrounds Guildhall and onto Court Street, open Tues 08:00-15:00, Fri and Sat 09:00-16:00.
There’s a variety of stalls selling household essentials, clothes, trinkets, plants and flowers and fresh fruit and vegetables, much of which is produced locally.
Market days: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday.

Precise information on deadline(s) for lodging appeals: Swale Borough Council will incorporate a minimum 10 calendar day standstill period following communication of the award of the contract to candidates in accordance with Regulations 32 and 32A of the Public Contracts Regulations 2006 (SI2006 no. 5) (as amended) (‘the 2006 Regulations’). This period allows unsuccessful candidates to seek further debriefing from the Contracting Authority before the contract is entered into.
