II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

This contract is for the supply of services, drivers, vehicles and plant to help support the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (BMDC) in its provision of winter maintenance. The services supplied will include: drivers, specialist winter maintenance vehicles and plant e.g. bulk gritters, snow ploughs, pavement gritting equipment, JCBs and snow blowers. This contract will not involve supply of grit/rock salt as this will be provided and managed by BMDC.
This contract will be broken into “Lots”. Each Lot is a stand alone package and interested suppliers can bid for and be sucessful in one or more Lots.
The contract will be for 2 years with the option to extend for 2 x1 years subject to contractor performance and the Council having the need and funding for the service.
LOT 1 – NIGHT PATROL
To provide drivers to work driving a bulk gritter (HGV) provided by BMDC, and grit the highway as directed by BMDC.
This work will be on an ad hoc basis through the months of October to April and between the hours of 1800hrs and 0700hrs as directed by BMDC.
LOT 2 – FOOTWAY GRITTING
To provide staff to support BMDC in winter conditions as and when required and as directed by BMDC. This will be between the hours of 0600 and 1800.
LOT 3 – SNOW CLEARANCE
To provide staff and/or specialist vehicles and plant for snow clearance. This will be on an ad hoc basis when winter weather conditions are severe enough for BMDC to require extra support (e.g. snow) Vehicles may include JCB’s, tractor ploughs, pavement tractors with gritting attachments, other snow ploughing equipment, tractors and snow blowers.
LOT 4 – GRITTER & DRIVER
To provide Gritting vehicles & drivers to cover specific gritting routes in the Bradford District throughout the winter season (usually October to March depending on weather conditions)
