Description of the goods or services required

There is a requirement to provide tour guide training for tours to the Kelpies that form part of the Helix project. The tours are likely to be operated from Spring 2014. These tours will be delivered at a high standard and will provide the customer with an engaging, insightful and unique experience. These tours will be delivered by staff employed by Falkirk Community Trust.

The Helix Project Overview

Falkirk Community Trust has been appointed to operate The Helix. This includes a 350 hectare site that includes the Kelpies and Visitor Centre, Helix Park and over 27 kilometres of paths.

The Helix is a regeneration project based between Grangemouth and Falkirk.

The Kelpies are the world’s largest equine statues and have already generated significant international interest and media coverage

In order to deliver these tours there is a need for an experienced tour provider with a proven track record in tour provision and customer service to deliver a training programme for the tour guides.

There will be support from The Helix who will provide tour information but there is an expectation for the training provider to deliver a programme that includes:

Training tailored for staff new to tour delivery

Training on the most effective ways of delivering the tour

Training on adapting tours to engage a variety of audiences

Training on how to maintain a high standard of tour delivery

Training that communicates the standards expected at The Helix

Total quantity or scope of tender

Submission of proposal, with timescales and budget from February 2014 onwards – Friday 31st of January 2014

Review of proposals – Complete week ending Friday the 7th of February 2014. An interview process may take place but it will be confirmed if this is required.

Appointment of successful organisation – Friday the 14th of February 2014

Training and development to be complete by 19th of April 2014.

Please note that timescales may be subject to change and so there would be a requirement for any company to be flexible in their approach.

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Experience

For successful delivery, this contract will require an experienced tour provider with

Excellent knowledge of developing an engaging and unique visitor experience

A strong track record in tour delivery for the general public, tourists and specialist groups

Proven experience of success and within the Scottish tourist industry and in particular within the visitor attraction sector
