Description of the contract
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is the lead government department for the tourism sector. Part of the DCMS tourism strategy includes supporting the national tourism boards VisitBritain (VB) and VisitEngland (VE) in their role to support the economy by building the value of tourism to Britain and England. In 2011/12 DCMS provided around £36m of grant-in-aid funding to these non-departmental public bodies. The return on investment to this funding – in terms of increased visitor expenditure in the UK economy – is a key question in assessing the value for money of public expenditure in this area.
