Event Title: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Target Group: All staff working in Adult Social Care and Safeguarding division, and supervisory staff working in provider services.

To provide an overview of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, its principles and practical application, and how the legislation should be used in assessment, support planning, and in the provision of care and support.
•Understand the origins of DoLS legislation, and how it fits with other legislation, including the HRA and MCA.
•Understand roles and responsibilities under the DoLS legislation, to include those of managing authorities and supervisory bodies.
•Understand what might constitute a risk of deprivation of liberty.
•Understand what processes need to be followed under the DoLS legislation.
•Understand what to expect having triggered a referral under the DoLS legislation.
•Understand who is involved in Best Interests Assessments, to include consideration of access to records and information sharing.
•Understand what is meant by a ‘Standard Authorisation’, to include discussion of the length of authorisation, conditions, and recommendations.
•Understand the limitations of the DoLS legislation in practice.
