Description

Leicester City Council wishes to appoint an appropriately qualified training provider for courses over a period of a year on the subject of Developing Independent Travel Training for direct workforce that support people with learning difficulties/disabilities (LDD).

The training will employ Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI) approach which will take a task orientated, natural stepped approach most suited to people with LDD.

Travel training should be aimed at the direct workforce who supports people with learning difficulties/disabilities. This will be a mixture of staff from Children Young People Service, Adult Social Care, Voluntary Sector and Health.

The training should provide the skills to the workforce so that they can work with their customers and the contractor will be expected to set a competency level.

The purpose of the training is to identify what steps, safeguards, and resources are needed to support a person with LDD gaining the skills to become more independent in their travel.

The customers will be people with LDD who currently or are likely to receive transport (or the equivalent budget) from the Local Authority and those young people whose opportunities in life will be greatly enhanced by being able to travel independently.

Training for Trainers will be a requirement of the contract.

The Service Providers will need to adhere to the principals of travel training as set out in the Department for Transport Travel Training Good Practise Guidance 2011.
