The Uckfield Town Centre Regeneration project is less than 45 minutes travel time from London and only 20 miles from the south coast. Wealden District Council, on behalf of the UTRC, is seeking a development partner with the relevant experience, vision, resource capability, to secure the right to support the redevelopment and expansion of the town centre, including additional retail floor space of some 10 000 m² net retail floor space as part of a comprehensive scheme of improvements which will increase the attractiveness of Uckfield and create a vibrant and inclusive town centre.
As part of the town centre redevelopment activity the partners have already initiated a number of transport improvements including to the High Street and the bus terminal. The successful bidder would need to propose a comprehensive approach which linked in with and supported the broad objectives and public realm styles of these improvements.
The Uckfield Town Centre Regeneration Joint Committee (UTCR) has been established with representatives of East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council, and Uckfield Town Council to manage the project.

Selection of a development partner to deliver the high level objectives for the regeneration of Uckfield Town Centre and to support the vision through:
a) Provision of additional retail floor space for a variety of retail and social outlets;
b) The development of a mixed use and attractive High Street;
c) Increased and improved civic realm, including a civic square;
d) Improved use of green space, including Luxford Field, to provide enhanced recreational and social facilities;
e) Inclusion of replacement residential elements (subject to Habitats Regulations Assessments) to enable mixed use
f) Increased employment opportunities through retail and other development;
g) Redevelopment and provision of educational facilities; and
h) Improved car parking provision.
The public sector partners hold significant town centre landholdings which will be made available on appropriate terms to enable a successful regeneration project to progress.
