Virtual Desktop Capability Assessment
None
The current ICT infrastructure within St. Helens Council is based on fixed desks and personal computer deployment (one PC per person). We believe that in order to support the property rationalisation programme, to refresh the current desktop estate and address our medium and long term ICT requirements, a more flexible approach is required.

St. Helens Council will be looking to adopt a “build it and they will come” model for any VDI solution.   It is envisaged that the initial implementation will put in place the base technology and infrastructure building blocks to allow the organisation to establish a VDI footprint.  Expansion will happen as and when the organisation dictates through releasing the traditional desktop replacement revenue funds.  As such, any solution must be flexible, supportable and scalable over the next five years.
Solutions will need to incorporate hardware and software, including implementation, equipment, licenses, training, consultancy, project management, maintenance and support.
This project has the potential to impact a high number of users and the way they work as such.; any technology which is not fit for purpose or which is introduced with no consideration to their needs, will fail.
It is envisaged that any project approach should incorporate but not be limited to,  the following work streams:-
·         Business Case inc indicative TCO & ROI figures
·         Inventory
·         Compatibility / Readiness Assessment (inc. infrastructure)
·         Profiling
·         Initial Solution / Infrastructure Design
·         Proof of Concept/s (each limited to two weeks)
·         Review Proof of Concept Outcomes
·         Pilot / UAT
·         Business Case validation inc TCO & ROI models
Authority to Proceed
·         Final Solution / Infrastructure Design
·         Tender for core infrastructure (inc. schedule for the call-off to allow future expansion)
·         Core Infrastructure in place / Service Catalogue (part of EUCM offerings)
·         Training
·         Desktop migration
·         On-going support / Solution expansion (Schedule of Rates)
·         Review outcomes
