Excavated waste material arising during the renewal and heavy maintenance of railway track is transported by rail to Network Rails local distributions centres (LDCs). If the material is used ballast then this is processed by Network Rail into secondary aggregate. This contract is for the management of the remaining waste material arising from the renewal and maintenance of track, and that arising from the processing of used ballast by Network Rail at Network Rails LDCs and material handling depots. The waste must be managed in accordance with the Waste Hierarchy. Typical waste will include, but not be limited to construction, demolition and excavation waste described under European Waste Catalogue chapter 17
