II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

The work comprises of the Water Hygiene Management within properties owned by or occupied by Coventry City Council but could be made available to other adjacent Local Authorities to comply with the full recommendations in the management of water system hygiene and the monitoring of hot and cold water systems as listed in the HSE “Legionnaires disease – The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems (L8) Approved Code of Practice and Guidance” (or as amended in 2014) and remedial works as agreed with the Supervising Engineer.
The works are to be carried out during normal working hours within normally occupied operational buildings and the contractor shall allow within his tender sum for all costs associated with carrying out the works in line with a pre-defined programme, with a minimum of disruption during normal working hours.
Legionella Risk Assessments, Re-assessments and monitoring shall be carried out in accordance with BS8580 and as outlined in The Approved Code of Practice and Guidance, L8, ‘The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems’ (or as amended in 2014). Monitoring and management programmes shall include horticultural sites, schools, offices, shops and commercial/retail units etc. The water system monitoring shall include; monthly temperature checks; monthly checks to secondary control systems, where present, plant inspections; shower cleaning, Thermostatic Mixer Valve (TMV) servicing and microbiological sampling. Previous documentation will be available to the contractor by Coventry City Council.
