- The contract is for the delivery (design, build, installation) of the digital resource (website), digital products (including a project mobile app) and associated hardware and for data and front end hosting and partner data upload support (for the 5 year life of the project) for data hosting, image hosting, partner level support for 2 partners, community archive user generated dataset, plus an own use front end ring fenced server capable of running both primary builds (Great War, then a general one) plus separate open source micro-sites setup. Full technical requirements and design and build details can be found in the Digital Requirements Specification and Digital Maintenance and Management Plan.The overall budget for this contract is approximately £135,000. This breaks down according to the attached Digital Requirements Specification, but is summarised below:• Data consultation and mapping £8,000• Design and Development of website including 4 additional skins £30,000• Hardware associated with user access to digital resource £5,000• Development and delivery of digital applications and outputs directly linked to digital resource (including Mobile Project App) £52,000• Data and front end hosting and partner data upload support (for the 5 year life of the project) for data hosting, image hosting, partner level support for 2 partners, community archive user generated dataset, plus an own use front end ring fenced server capable of running both primary builds (Great War, then a general one) plus separate open source micro-sites setup. For further detail refer to the Digital Requirements Specification and Digital Maintenance and Management Plan. £40,000. NB after the completion of the project the management and maintenance contract will be reissued for tender. The project will employ a full time Digital Content Manager. The digital supplier will need to provide training for this post (and any other relevant post) in the day to day use and upkeep of the system and associated applications.
The project aims to create a website to accomplish the following objectives:• Act as an online portal to the Doncaster 1914-18 project • Host digital content and products generated through project activities (designed and created by the digital contractor in association with the project team and Doncaster College/University Campus), as set out in the Activity Plan (e.g. podcasts, instructional videos, recorded events, online exhibitions)• Provide online access to collections (via the collections databases) and to hold digitised collections (i.e. images of objects and archival material and information relating to collections)• Provide an online digital heritage resource relating to Doncaster and the First World War (historical narrative, content and interpretation of people, material culture, places and events)• Provide a forum and facilities for crowd sourcing/user generated content and space for special interest groups and schools to upload and access heritage• Create a website which is flexible and can be further developed to become a heritage hub – to include further online projects and content• Create social media pages (Facebook and Twitter) specifically for the project which can be linked through the website.•Create a website which can easily be linked to and from other websites.•Create a website which is compatible with the British Libraries website archiving facility – Webcrawler• create a website which via the use of its own APIs to link with and provide broader connections with Great War national projects.
