Description of the contract

The Centre for Public Health Excellence (CPHE) at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has been asked by the Department of Health (DH) to develop public health guidance aimed at managing overweight and obesity in adults through lifestyle weight management services. This piece of guidance will be developed by a Programme Development Group (PDG) in 2013, in line with the final scope for this work. The guidance is expected to be published in May 2014 and will contain recommendations based on the evidence considered by the PDG. Two evidence reviews are being commissioned for this guidance. This document is the invitation to tender for review 1: a focused update of the 2011 HTA review by Loveman et al on the clinical effectiveness of long term weight management schemes for adults: a systematic review. This update is focusing on UK based trials with at least 12 months follow up. Tenders from individuals, organisations or consortia of organisations are welcomed. Contractors may also submit a tender for evidence review 2 if they so wish. The contractor(s) will be capable of providing high quality analyses and evidence within very tight timescales. The contract will start from 4th October 2012. The contractor(s) will work closely with CPHE and in line with NICE methods and processes for development of evidence-based guidance. Documents describing the methods and process employed by NICE are available from NICE’s website www.nice.org.uk and specifically the current Process and Methods manuals for CPHE guidance are at www.nice.org.uk/phmethods2009; www.nice.org.uk/phprocess2009.
